I have just finished uploading and installing CHEAV's first-ever online forums!

What does this mean for all you CHEAV members? Well, that should be fairly obvious; you now don't have to use the Yahoo Group(yay).

You might ask me, "But Nick, why is this better?" Well, there are a huge number of benefits... many that you won't see unless you dig deep.



Some people might have some concerns, though. Like the following:

Are the CHEAV Forums private?
Yes... they are 100% private. The only publicly viewable forum is the one you are reading right now(and this one you can't even post in anyways).

Will I get flooded by emails like the Yahoo Groups?
No... which is probably the best thing about this whole forum system. You get to selectively choose what you would like to be subscribed to. Don't want to hear about the latest homeschool jokes? Not a problem... just don't subscribe... Want to be kept "in the loop" regarding new events and upcoming field trips? Just subscribe to the forum to get email updates that only pertain to that category.

Can I do everything I can do in Yahoo Groups?
There isn't anything you can't do over here that you can do at Yahoo Groups... and plus, it's our own site. Basically, Yahoo owns the Yahoo Group, but we own this one.

What will stop anyone from just registering and seeing all the posts?
Thankfully I have thought of that before you even asked, and have made the registration process require Administrator approval.

Can I start topics about whatever I want?
Well, that's what the General Chat forum is for(you'll see it once you register). There are some rules about the General Chat still, so please make sure you go over the guidelines before posting something(our moderators are swift and merciless ). However, if you think the forum needs another specialized category, just email me, the webmaster, and I will seriously take your suggestion into consideration.

Can my friend have an account here as well?
Unfortunately, this forum is restricted to CHEAV members only. If you really think that there should be some sort of "public" forum here as well, you will have to ask Mrs. Southern about that, as I will not implement anything drastically new without her approval. At the moment, I don't even think it is a practical consideration.

Can I upload files like on Yahoo Groups?
You see, I don't even know why I'm making this question, as I already answered it in answer to the question above. But yes, you are allowed to post "attachments" to your threads that you create, which other registered users can then download. However, if the size of attachments starts getting out of hand, I think we will have to start implementing some sort of restrictions... so don't go overboard, as we don't have an unlimited supply of space here on our web server.
